Help? how to beat the double fianchetto

Sort:

Okay so i played this guy, and he played as white and instantly went for G6 and B6 respectfully and fianchettoed the bishops without any center play in the first 4 turns, i wasn't sure how to counter that, i lost, and then we rematched, this time he's playing black and he STILL did the exact same thing, but when i moved my center pawns even further in, he delayed the 2nd fianchetto for a bit to get a decent center control, then he still fianchettoed.. And i still lost even though i seen it coming, you guys can find these two matches in my completed games history, i can't really post it as I'm on my phone. But I'll try to if your help requires to see it posted. Please any tips would be appreciated.

just looked briefly at your games and you started running into trouble when you brought out your queen early

support your center pawns and get developed

Your main problem wasn't the double fianchetto, it was that you left a lot of pawns and pieces unprotected, and overextended looking for attacks. The purpose of placing a pawn in the center is to gain some control over important central squares. Your problem is that you didn't adequately protect these pawns, so you lost them and then had no central control. You should work on making sure that your pieces will be defended adequately when you move, and try to consider what moved your opponent might make and how to prevent them from winning material. Take more time to make your moves.

Here is an example of a game where my opponent had a double fianchetto, but my control of the center was good. Neither of us played perfectly, but it's still an example of how to play I guess.

Here's a nice example by Wilhelm Steinitz, the first undisputed world champ: (he is white)

whichever side he prepares to fianchetto, you also do the same.for example for g3 play g6.that is if you want the other bishop to stay dormant
