It is called having common sense, you already said you didnt lose because of the opening but because tactics.
Simply developing, even with only d and e pawns will be enough to prove White is better.
Instead why dont you study tactics?

Around an hour ago, I tried to counter the Hippo system (since it's a hypermodern system) with a wall of center pawns (like the four pawns attack in the King's Indian attack). I lost anyway (probably due to some blunders costing me a pawn, and at one point, a knight).
Can anyone give an example game of the Hippo being broken down by a big pawn center?
