How is this not a Catalan opening?

The opening moves were 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.g3

It says I played an Indian Game: Tartakower Attack.

I'm a bit of a noob but am I missing something? or did the computer screw up?

Edit: Added a photo with the opening it said I'm playing as oppose to a photo of just the board.

After black plays d7-d5 you are in the Catalan. Before that, or instead of playing d7-d5, they can push the game into the Bogoindian (3...Bb4), or try to force Benoni (3...c5 4.d5 exd5 5.cxd5). So, it is not the Catalan, at least not yet.

Nearly there!

indeed. Post #2 explains it all, but fun fact: GM Saviely Tartakower is the one who introduced the Catalan Opening (perhaps the reason why).

Indeed the organisers of the 1929 tournament in Barcelona, captital of Catalonia, asked Tartakower to create a new opening.

Why is this considered Queen's Gambit Declined and not a Catalan opening? Thank you for your insight given so far. It is really appreciated.

It's the catalan; chess.com opening database is messed up.

blueemu

Yeah, that last diagram is a Catalan.

Chess.com's database must be drunk.

People are just realizing this now? There are NUMEROUS mistakes in chess.com's labelling of openings.

This should come as absolutely NO SURPRISE!

AngryPuffer

lichess also says that it is the Catalan opening

Lichess also has it wrong. After 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.g3, the Opening is undetermined.

3...c5 - Fianchetto Benoni

3...d5 - Catalan

3...Bb4+ Depends on White's response:

4.Bd2 or 4.Nd2 - It's an offshoot of the Bogo-Indian, and likely a transposition if the White Knight goes to f3 as opposed to h3 or e2.

4.Nc3 is a direct transposition to the 4.g3 Nimzo.

PromisingPawns

Haha... Everything can't be perfect isn't it?

3.g3 is the Catalan from the nimzo move order. All of these options you gave transpose into other openings.

another example of this type of thing would be in a position like this

just went from a Catalan to a tarrash. does this mean that when black plays 3.d5 its still not the catalan?
