How should I counter the Sicilian?

I’ve struggled as white when my opponent goes for the Sicilian. I don’t see it a whole lot at my rating level (500 to 600), but when I play in tournaments etc…, it’s a pretty common response to 1. e4. I’ relatively inexperienced against it, and it usually throws me off guard. Any suggestions as to what I should play? Other than the delayed wing gambit, I’m out of ideas. Thanks!

I would just recommend the Closed Sicilian at your level. I wouldn't play a wing gambit.... that requires sharp play from you. And you don't want to over-emphasize throwing off the opponent when your opponents don't know anything anyway. Closed Sicililan is just fundamentally good, and it limits the amount of theory you'll need to think about while still remaining principled.

For now just play the Grand Prix attack, i.e. push f4 like this and then build up to storming the kingside. Very simple, hard to go too wrong -

Thanks for the insight. The opening you provided looks pretty playable. By the way, I’m better at chess than my rating lets off. (Not to brag or anything, but I’ve beaten a 2000 rated bot, where the Sicilian was played, hence my inquiry about the opening)
