Superfun to play as white, especially in blitz and it's almost sound. What I've found to be the key ideas are: dont rush the attack. Build up the center, castle kingside and use center to push black back inch by inch, making sure that as your pawns push forward, black's knights do not gain outposts. Castling queenside seems right but it gives black counterplay. Best defense for black is to be active and precise, e.g., if 5. Bc4+ (a mistake) d5! then Bd6.
How to play the cochrane gambit??
Yes-good play for black, bad play for white. white should capture Nxd4 to keep pawn center or just go Bd3, O-O, f4 then e5 is a threat.

These are links to some decent videos on the Cochrane and there is also a speciality site on the Cochrane but I seem unable to open it with my tablet. I will try my PC and I will get back to you.

The chess.com "game review" thinks the Cochrane gambit is a blunder! I'm glad to have discovered it, always had a dislike of the Petrov and at my level I don't think many Petrov players are prepared for the Cochrane
It is questionable at the highest level but that doesn't make it a blunder -
did Topalov blunder here?
