i would also like to mention that its not impossible that 6.Nxc6 transposes to other 1.e4 e5 lines at the DVD somewhere im not familiar with any of the lines he recommends
How to play this Sam collins Bb4 scotch
i completely agree that black is fine but if i need to work out 6.Nxc6 myself the DVD wasnt worth the money. it should have something to say about the superpopular 6.Nxc6 which is also recommended in other recent sources. 6.Nxc6 is no easy ride for black despite he is probably fine theoretically
sorry if i seem frustrated but i have now faced the scotch 8 times and got 6.Nxc6 in all of them

- It seems that 6. Be3 is better than 6. Nxc6.
- Both 6...bxc6 and 6...dxc6 are okay.
As usual, i suppose u use statistics to offer these assesment.
Opening status are not based on statistics but on concrete variations.
There is no real consensus about which move is best on 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Nxd4 Bc5
5.Nxc6, 5.Be3, and 5.Nb3 are all ok for black if he/she knows its stuff, like most openings.
5.Nb3 became the fashionable move some years ago : simple, no risk, and some improvments where found for white.
About 4..Bb4 and the line provided by TheDrevland, of course not dxc6, when queen trade and black will suffer a difficult ending because of pawn structure and king on centre.
When i played the scotch, i preferred Nxc6 on Be3 on this Bb4+ variation (and i played Nb3 on Bc5, the difference is that u can play Nc3 and consider long castle...), because i like the idea of taking doubling pawns, Bd3, castling. Simple for white and have some venom.

Yeah thats why i was dissapointed that Nxc6 wasnt even mentioned. I looked through all of the dvd now and didnt notice anything else important missing so maybe he just did a mistake. in general everything i have read by Sam Collins is great. I guess i find something elsewhere on Bb4+ if i look around for a bit
so i bought his DVD on 1.e4 e5 which recommends Bc5 against pretty much everything and i started with the scotch as its popular in my club. Every single one of my opponents have answered Bc5 with Nxc6 but Collins doesnt even mention the move. Then i check chess.com database and its second most popular move. Then i check John Shaws recent book playing 1.e4 which use the scotch, and you guessed it, he recommends Nxc6. Now i consider ditching the DVD i feel really left out here. Can anyone tell me if this is the rule or the exception of this dvd? If the entire DVD is like this i dont want to use any of the lines in it i dont trust it
btw if any one can point to me litterature on the Bb4 lines which include 6.Nxc6 i would be thankful i think its a interestning line
