By far the best win rate is the caro kann, even tho the french is an easier alternative. Against d4 there are multiple options and all are good
Ethan_Brollier

Against 1. e4, 1... e5.
Against 1. d4, 1... d5 or 1... Nf6.

omkarramamurthy

Been there, I was losing 70% games with black. That time my repertoire consisted of Sicilian hyperaccelerated dragon and KID. By experience, I advise you to stay away from these opening. These two opening are very complex. I would advise you to play caro and slav as they are much simpler, solid and provide good fighting chances.

I have to agree & disagree with the Crow!

I agree with the Crow about the HAD.

I wouldn’t recommend the Hyper accelerated Dragon.

I would recommend the regular Dragon.

It can score you some very nice wins as Black because most people who are Intermediate don’t know how to play against it very well.1

I disagree with the Crow about the KID.
I think Kings Indian Defense can be very good against intermediated players.
It has a lot of variations, but the set up is often the same for majority of the variations. Most people you play against will not do anything crazy either.

Its a good chance to snag wins.

Try the hippopotamus defense. It is playable in white and black. Many GMs have used it with success. The good thing about this opening is that you don't need lots of theory knowledge. It's a battle of middle-game and end-game skills. https://youtu.be/gJR7tzAEz7E

It's not your opening selection that's keeping you down.

ItsHegelTime

Lmao, you have a significantly higher win rate with black than with white (in rapid). If anything, you should be more concerned with your white openings, than with your black openings.
