is the alekhines defense a dependable opining

The one big advantage of the Alekhine is that you can be 95% sure you have prepared better than your opponent. The downside to this is that this advantage is because the Alekhine is a debatable opening. At your level it does seem to have a surprisingly high success rate when it comes to less mainline openings. The theory is limited but relatively easy to grasp for your rating. It's a matter of taste mostly though, but the fact you brought it up may tell me it's an option you should examine.
Below the master level any of the top 10 responses to 1e4 are playable. Theoretically, maybe anything but 1...c5, e5 or e6 are questionable. At the lower level, knowing the opening better than your opponent may be more important than how sound it is.
It suits my style, since it provokes white to overextend, often leads to wide open positions, and usually leads to interesting positions.

I think the Alekhine's defense is a solid opening but personally I would use it as a backup weapon, not as a main response to e4

I once played vs an Alikhine player with Elo 2100 and i was prepared with: 1. e4 Nf6 2. Bc4...the games was draw, but he gets trouble cause this line was even for him not well known.

I’ve used Alekhines defense since I was 1200 on this site, and I’m still using it.

Why would you play this as white... black takes on f7 and plays g6 e6 with a strong central influence 😐

Black must give back Night after Qh5+...his king did move, his rochade is gone....open game for both sides. But the main thing is: Even good Alikhin-Player are mostly out of there normal ways in book. If u play 1.e4 Nf6 2. e5 and so on they know better what to do than me :-)

Most Alekhine players play better when out of book to be honest, and it’s not hard to see that black is going to gain time on whites queen, his bishop can easily develop to g7 , Rook to f8, king is safe, extra center pawn...

yes it totally is. i win games all the time with it. esp w/ the abeebe-makeela forethrust (some call it the mokele mbembe)

Aren't you 1600-1700 FIDE!? At that level, you can play 1.g4 or 1..g5, and it still won't make any significant difference.

I'm 1680 uscf. And what is your point?

I think my point is kind of obvious. It doesn't really matter what openings people play at club and/or amateur level.

OP asked if alekhine's defense was a dependable opening, not whether or not it was playable at amateur level.
and this 1600 uscf kid is 300 points higher rated than you online, if you want to compare ratings.

Statistics prove otherwise. Besides, the whole game is different.
I think you don't have any point and have nothing to contribute, but you figured you'd add this to make yourself feel smug and/or troll people.
