Is the Colle a good opening?

Greetings! I have had enough of facing the vast range of defences black has at his disposal against e4, the Sicilian in particular and have decided to change to d4 ( i remember when i first picked up the game without any opening theory d4 was what i would play so maybe im a natural d4 player anyway)I know this decision is objectable but im sick of all the beatings i take from sicilian players. I want an opening that I can play every time I'm white I looked at the stonewall but didn't like it and have found the colle which looks really good; as white can eventually turn the game back into a kings pawn position. I have never used this opening but would like to use it as a main weapon. Does anyone have any advice on using this line, any specific variations to look into or watch out for basic Stargedy ideas or familiar attacking patterns, whether it is viable as a primary opening or suggestions on what else i could look into. Any information or advice or references are appreciated

I consider the Colle system a good opening, it is highly used in shcolastic tournaments, however, as GM Serper once said,The problem is that many chess players don't really understand the key ideas of the opening, so instead to take the initiative and start attacking as soon as possible, they just enjoy their solid position and play natural moves... that's why many chess players consider it somewhat a passive opening, but in my opinion it is a highly tactical system that black should watch out for, very solid

i play the colle zukertort sometimes. u should try that. u can  get some really fun and interesting positions sometimes. here r two games i played the CZ in:

u usually try to take control of the e5 square and play ne5 followed by f4 to back it up. u sometimes have a pawn storm on the kingside too. u can even play rf1-f3-g3 sometimes to place pressure against g7

Thanks gusper. Nice games benbo enjoyable wild king side attacks as well as central control. I played my first two colle games now and the first lead to a very pleasing kingside onslaught and the second resulted in a very comfortable game with a nice kingside attack again. I think if black gets Bf5 in early enough like move 2 then alot of the openings sting could be taken away but I'm not sure. Most people I play respond 1. Nf6 anyway so getting Bd3 shouldn't be a problem but what if black plays a kings Indian set up,I know it's a good choice against stonewall to reduce the effectiveness of whites light square bishop, is it the same with colle ??

This looks kind of interesting to me with a view to swapping to 1. d4 as my first move. Would you recommend it for that?

Advice on Bf5, Play c4 and Qb3, Nc3 type stuff, you will win a lot against it.

As for the Colle, I wouldnt really recommend it as a 'system' (played against everything), for a few reasons. 1.it's not very good against KID setups/Modern setups. 2. You will not reach a diverse amount of positions 3.this could lead to boredom and you eventually quitting it anyway.

When I played the london system my repertoire looked something like this:

1.d4

(a) 1..Nf6 2.Bg5     Trompowsky
(b) 1..f5 2.Bg5       Hopton
(c) 1..d5 2.Bf4       London
(d) 1...e6 2.Bf4      London
(e) 1..g6  2.e4       Going for a 150.

I went for a tromp v Nf6 to avoid KID, a Hopton v f5 to avoid any kind of dutch setups such as leningrad that can be annoying against the london and a 150 attack against 1..g6, because its really the only way I can prevent them transposing to a KID.

colle system is a very good of playing white develops his pieces in such a way that it looks his pieces are obstructing each other. however there are only pieces and can be removed also.

colle system holds "dynamic energy" and suddenly it burst out with a very powerful attack .but black should try to play c5 (break) to avoid getting cramped :)

That's exactly right - if Black plays c5 and just blows things open, the Colle plan of playing e4 at the right time with some gain just never occurs, and white is left with a cramped development and no initiative.

It's safe but against good play it's not effective.
