is the Italian a good opening?

Just wondering.
BlizzardLizzard

Yes. It's simple and effective. It stakes a claim to the center and develops the pieces to good squares.

ShamusMcFlannigan

It's good enough for the best in the world (as is the Scotch, Ruy Lopez,  etc)

Yes it is a good, solid opening choice for white. What’s cool is that the Italian can be an aggressive or passive opening. It depends on your play style!
Wildekaart

Can't go much wrong with this for White as long as you don't try fancy stuff like the many gambits that are prevalent. If your opponent does this you may also find yourself in trouble.

For less trappy stuff the Ruy Lopez is probably a better pick.

Worst opening ever!

Thats why beginners play it, coachs teach it, and even top level players play it!

And it is very rich, u can chose the type of game u want! (of course u don't play all alone...)

Italian is good, but their are other openings which are better.

Yes the Italian Bongcloud or the Italian weed and the Spanish Weed. Check the topic e4 openings to find out what I am talking about or I can post the openings here. Spanish weed will destroy all.

When in doubt just bongcloud it.
