is the Italian a good opening?

Yes. It's simple and effective. It stakes a claim to the center and develops the pieces to good squares.


Can't go much wrong with this for White as long as you don't try fancy stuff like the many gambits that are prevalent. If your opponent does this you may also find yourself in trouble.
For less trappy stuff the Ruy Lopez is probably a better pick.

Worst opening ever!
Thats why beginners play it, coachs teach it, and even top level players play it!
And it is very rich, u can chose the type of game u want! (of course u don't play all alone...)
