It should work, KIA is good.
is the King's indian the same for white/black?

I don't know if your winrate would go up. The KIA is not exactly the same as the KID but it's also a good opening so could work well for you. It's worth a try.
The main line French KIA continues something like this.
The idea is to bring the knights round to the kingside like so. I'm not an expert on this line though.
The KIA and KID are not the same opening. The main thing to keep in mind is that Black doesn't have to respond to 1. Nf3 with 1. ... d5. They can go for something else (like a French, Sicilian, or Caro-Kann) and very often the KIA is not the best setup.
If you want to use it at its full power, then you should occasionally go for a Catalan setup instead or even throw in an early e4 if it leads to a good e4 opening. (For example 1. Nf3 b6 2. e4 is an Owen Defence by transposition).
Would your win-rate suddenly go up if you used the KIA? No, for two reasons: 1) lack of experience with this opening, and 2) opening choice does not matter that much at your level. Tactics, endgames, and positional play are all far more important.

Thank you for your input. Still I have question regarding if there are any large differences between the KIA and KID. In other words, should I expect a similar winrate if I play them both?
I understand on the topic of "overall chess education" it may be better have a more diversified repertoire and study more openings deeply, but right now i just want to find an opening as white I am most comfortable with.

can someone explain to me why i should just play KIA as white and get similar (or better) winrates?
in other words, can someone explain why isnt KIA just KID with an extra tempo?

With the extra tempo, the strategy will be totally different as black will have different ways of playing in response to the moves. Also white could use many other strategies which utilise the extra tempo in what might be considered a better way. KID up a tempo is not simply the same opening up a tempo. It's a different opening. It changes a lot of the strategy. The English is not the Sicilian, for example.
KIA is a decent opening and you might do well with it but you can't have the expectation that you will have a high winrate just because you play KID. That's totally on how well you understand and play the KIA.
Hello, I looked at my win rates for white/black and noticed that I win a lot more as black than I do as white (53% black, 45% white). I exclusively play King's indian defense (or Pirc's defense if they start 1.e4) as black and I am fairly comfortable with it.
My question is if I started playing the exact same setup (Kings indian attack) as white, would my win rate go up to match my black win rate? the way i see it, they are basically the same except I go first as KIA, which in theory would make me even better right?
It kinda makes sense in my head... but it can't be that simple, right? Thanks for any insight or feedback!
