Sometimes I use it, sometines I don't. Usually, I'm too lazy to look things up, lol.
Is using the Opening Explorer during Daily Games a bad idea?

I would love to hear what the chess.com mods think about this topic.
Personally, I would like to see the opening explorer disabled during live games if indeed this is occurring regularly.
this isnt in live chess, daily games
Yes opening books are not allowed in any live games, so if opening books don't appeal just stick to the live games.

I'm sorry, but I just don't agree that this is fair play at all.
One reason, unfortunately, why I don't play games longer than 5 minutes is that I do not want to play against my opponent's computer.
Study openings to learn them, of course.
But consulting a database to choose my next move?
Seriously?
I wouldn't want to play someone who felt this was somehow "fair play."
If you go to chess.com support page "What do I need to know about fair play at chess.com?" You will read the following "In Daily Chess (turn-based games with several days per move), you may consult any resource which is not engine-based. This includes books, opening databases (including the Chess.com Explorer) for [www.chess.com/openings|opening moves], and thematic games (though not their engine analyses). Tablebases are NOT allowed. You may not consult an engine, or another human, to provide an opinion on the opening database, tablebases, self-preparation or analysis that would relate to a particular game-in-progress on Chess.com."
In summary, using an engine in daily is cheating, but not an opening database. Part of the history or correspondence chess is that you could use any study tools available to get ideas. And part of what makes a database different than an engine is that a database merely shows the win/loss/draw percentages for white and black in a given position. It does not however indicate what is the best move in a given position like an engine nor does it tell which player is actually in a better position. And after enough moves have been played, odds are you will get a unique position not in a database and then the database is no longer helpful. Believe me, even with a database, you still have to do the thinking and will not automatically lead to a win. I understand if that is not your cup of tea, but for daily at least it isn't cheating and the ability to study and analyze (without engine assistance of course) is part of the reason why this unique form of chess exists.
