Is Vant Kruijs opening any good?

Sort:

For those who dont know, Vant Kruijs opening begins with e3. Here is an example.

I have been thinking about this opening, and I have a question for everyone. Is there ANY benefit to this opening as opposed to the Kings Pawn Opening e4?

The only benefit I see is building up the defense of the d4 square by moving Nf3 later and moving Bb2 later on also.

In short, having a Bishop on b2, a Knight on f3, and a Pawn on d4, with the Bishop, Knight, e3 Pawn and Queen Covering the d4 Pawn is the ONLY potential benefit of this opening.

I could be wrong, though.

Thats why I ask you guys, is there ANY benefit to Vant Kruijs opening?

Think of some Black openings  that could be better if you had an extra move !    Play them as White !

For Instance the Sicilian 1st  move  for Black  1 e4, c5  can be White's Opening move 1 c4  and be a Reversed Siciilian

For 1 e3,  can try for a Reversed French Defense  or  1 e4, e6  2 d4, d5   - that's only if Black is cooperative !  ie;  1 e3

It's transpositional. For example, 1.e3 d5 2. d4 and this can transpose into a Colle System.

Batezzz

It's a solid opening you just need to adapt to the responses from black. I play it as my primary opening.

It's mostly a transposition weapon so its not really considered an independent opening (much like 1.d3 and 1.c3)

but they are a few hidden gems if you know where to look. For example

I play it because in the lower ELO's it is very common with black to respond to E3 with E5, in which case i respond to that with D4, which usually ends up in me winning a pawn or getting the enemy queen onto the board early to try and take her out.

"ELO" should be written as Elo. It's not an acronym, it's named after the inventor.

"E3" and D4" should be written "e3" and "d4".

I played around with it many years ago and beat the ChessMaster 4000's "Fischer-Style" using it. It transposed to a Stonewall type game, and computers weren't great with closed positions.
