KGA: (g5) In the olden days? What is agadmator talking about here?

3. ... g5 used to be the main line, a hundred or more years ago.
It went out of fashion, usually being replaced by 3. ... d5, 3. ... d6, or 3. ... Be7.
With the rise of chess engines, it's back in fashion.

Yea, but agadmator said this in 2018, AFTER Carlsen defended his title against Caruana. So that is only 1 year and 7 months ago. Were computers that naive 1.5 years ago?

3...d5 is probably Black's easiest and less trouble-free solution against the King's gambit, especially under the move order 2...d5 3.exd5 exf4 etc.
That was my next question. I usually play g5 and have for some time. If d5 is a wiser choice for lower level club players then I think I ought to look in that and stop playing g5 for a while.

Forget about garbage book moves!

Install that monster properly, she is already 3600+ rated. You will still lose if someone has x100 cpu (400 cpu machine) than you or analyse x100 times than your machine
If you are more serious, install computer analysed opening books , such as brainfish ( they have like depth 50+ analysis).

I've played both g5 and d5. Both have been effective, and the g5 lines can be a lot of fun, but I've generally found the d5 line to be easier to play.

Hi all! Submit your games for Stockfish 11 analysis. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/game-analysis/submit-your-games-for-stockfish-11-analysis post your game there and all the rules are there.
You really think stockfish saying it's a top move means it's a top move that is played today, that's really your full evidence that agadmator is wrong?
Please grow a brain before you post again.

I am sorry to hear you suffer from fanboy syndrome and overreact when people use tools and resources at their disposal.
I didn't know I was in court and had to provide "full evidence". Here is more if you want. It clearly shows exf4 is not "olden". Nothing against agadmator, I just think it wasn't accurate to say olden. Sorry your idol may be an imperfect human just like you and me.

??
The "olden days" was about g5, not exf4.
Really not serious in your way to show some evidence. Moreover which database do u use, which parameters, etc...
Try again.

So, we couldn't use that same site to get g5 moves? Anyone can put the moves in and see.

U were referring first to g5 at move 3, the position has to be the one after 1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Nf3 if u want to make something pertinent.
So I don't get your point of searching at move 2.
Sure black can deviate earlier at move 2, with 2...d5 being the trendy move order to play the modern defence, or 2...Bc5 (refusing is quite respectable), and other moves (which are not trustworthy, though Adelaide countergambit and 2...Nf6 are interesting).
But "olden days" is just referring for move 3.

I posted the chessbase picture because it shows top GMs. Ok, you want g5? I don't know who played the games. So, was it Carlsen, a chess.com member, or Paul Morphy? I am not a paying member so I don't see the players who played the games, only the number. I figured anyone of you who has a title has access to these games and would know how to put in g5. But this is as far as I can go to "prove" to you that g5 is quite possibly NOT an olden move.

Aronian played d5 in this game and analysis given for g5 is ridiculous (choose another way to analyze).
Nobody told g5 isn't played anymore, u could of course find games with it at high level (where 2.f4 is rare) : but lines with d5 or other lines are more fashionable.
Searching positions at move 3 will not give you what is the fashion.
g5 has a big history and of course is the move u will see the most played in databases, but if u want to know the modern approaches, u have to search giving for examples parameters like years and ratings (for example +2500 rating for black and up to 2000 or 2010).
Edit : u've just removed your previous post, lol...

This is the most recent one with top GMs I have found. Andreikin, Sargissian, and Ivanchuk have also played g5.

I removed it because I mouseslipped. Sorry, I am human. I thought he played g5 so I posted that one. I updated it with the g5 move by a few other top GMs. Does that make it olden?
I am looking at a KGA video with agadmator talking about g5 being a move from the olden days. But when I put it through Stockfish, g5 comes up as the top move. What is he talking about? You can find where he says this at 2:40 in the video below.
