That's an ADVANCE variation in which black hasn't moved. You mean 1.e4 e5 and THEN 2.f4

if you are referring to playing against it, black has 3 basic ideas. these 3 basic ideas apply to all gambits. 1) you accept it. in this case black plays 1.e4,e5 2.f4,exf4 2) you decline it. there multiple ways of doing that not involving exf4. 3) you offer a counter gambit. 1.e4,e5 2.f4,d5. this is the faulkbeer counter gambit.

the falkbeer is BRUTAL if you know the theory. I'm studying it right now and there are sooo many winning lines for black in under 10 in the ...c6 sideline

it's re-invigorating my lust to play 1...e5 after slogging through the tough to get an advantage in luccini needed to play the brutal rousseau.

REVERSED falkbeer is powerful there, and I bet d4 is played against the jaenish schliemann too.

that's the 2nd most popular 6th move continuation in the 2nd most popular 5th move line!

its not the only mate in # line either, and i'm only booking up to move 7s. Qh4+ is a recurring slaughter, i mean theme.

3...c6!? is 38:59@145,668 games rated 1600-2000! that's probably why I miss the old days with 3...Qxd5 4.Nc6. it's a 5% sideline too, so total surprise weapon. i've never faced it yet, i see, in 69 TOTAL falkbeers in 1,142 total king's gambits, so it's a sideline within a sideline

that's brutal! why does everyone always seem to take the second pawn in all these two pawn gambits? give the pawn back, stay even, and don't give the enemy the initiative in super fast development.
