King's Gambit Bishop attack

How can you respond to this opening? I realize it's only temporarily good as it will be trouble for development but this is threatning a pain in the ass trick to prevent castling.

imaitra

h4 maybe worth looking at

imaitra

Yes, h4 should be all right. Here is ideal piece placement.

bellwater99

I didn't even see such a simple move as h4. Wow

imaitra

You are welcome. By the way can you take a look at my Grunfeld Blog Please and help me out

Wayward_Bishop

i know this! you play the king bishop out to attack the black bishop pawn and then play the king to the bishop square when black checks you...

imaitra

R u sure. let me check it out

imaitra

Actuallt it seems like Bc4 works out Fine as well. Here are the list of OK moves.

Bc4 works as well as Nc3. Alekhine played an interesting game using h4 which he won. May want to check that out

Yes, what's wrong with 4. Bc4 Bh4+ 5. Kf1? That looks fine for White, to me.

bellwater99

This is how I played not being able to see h4 or any of your comments listed. I ended up winning because of my well developed pieces, and because he blundered...

What I was thinking was that If I played Kf1 it would be a easy target and unprotected. That's probably why I played g3 instead

imaitra

I would suggest Bc4.

imaitra

g3 brings too much vulnerability to the King

In that position, it's the Black Bishop on h4 that's exposed... not the White King on f1.

With the Bishop sitting on h4, Black can't play Nf6 (because it loses the piece on h4), and he also can't play g7-g5 which is otherwise a pretty common idea for Black.

In fact, the Bishop sitting on h4 is a major pain in the neck for Black, while the White King on f1 looks perfectly safe.

what's fritz

Alright so the best continuation would be Bc4 letting the check happen or just simply h4?

I like this.

csalami10

The best continuation is this.

TheMushroomDealer

@csalami: GM Shaw marked that continuation as a dubious one... h4 creates ugly long term weakness and Bc4 is OK

bellwater99

I wouldn't do that because of the vulnerability of king
