King's Gambit

Hi all,

Is the King's Gambit worth studying at my level to help me learn basic lessons like opening principles, tactics, attacking and protecting the king?

My study time is limited so I see the practicality of just sticking with 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3, but I am trying to get the most out of my limited study time, so if a more wide-open imperfectly sound gambit is better for learning at my level, I am willing to give it a go.

Before people go into a "study tactics/endgames" rage, please note that when I say "studying" the king's gambit, I simply mean to play it more often as white when possible, see where I deviated from the main lines, and look up the corresponding prior successful responses...that's it.

Thanks!

if you are going to play it without studying it, you will get the results you earn.

studying tactics and endgames would help most players.

those are comments, not rage, as you seem to imply.

Well I do appreciate your comments seeing how you are much stronger player, so I apologize if that comment came across as accusatory and not nice.

You are absolutely correct that I would have to "study" it rather than just throw out moves after 2.f4, although I didn't want people to think that I'd be ignoring tactics/endgames.

I just want to be more consistent with my opening moves and stick to a narrow repertoire.  With the emphasis of beginner advice toward open games, I wonder if 1.e4 e5 2.f4 is appropriate for my level.
