Main line french 3.Nc3 by Pedersen is very good book
Looking for a Good Book on the French

If you are just starting out then Starting Out: the French by Byron Jacobs is an excellent book. It teaches you all the themes you need to know. Also, Play the French by John Watson covers a lot of lines and lets you pick and choose your repertoire.

Yes, I have the Watson book. Very good. He has an advanced version of that book as well which looks at traps and tricks. But Play the French is the one to start with.
I have never felt that the White side of the French mandates as much study as either the Ruy or the Sicilian. I found the best way to learn is to try and just find great ideas in GM games. A game of Anand's helped me find a monster attack in the Burn and Tal's famous win against Botvinnik from the WC in the Winawar gave me at least two or three wins.
I'd advise that you make a database of 10 or so great games in the Winawar, McCutcheon, Burn, Rubinstein, etc... and learn from that. Books only offer so much.
I am looking for the best and most advanced book on studying the French. Even if it is simply studying a single line, such as the winawer or tarrasch.
Whether its simply on a single line of the French Defense or a very broad book covering all lines including closed lines such as 1. e4 e6 2. d3 d5 or 1. e5 e6 2. Nf3
