My Chess Traps

Here I am just going to show you the traps I use in my games..one of them is not really a trap but is hard to defend.

P.S. there are ways around these but I am just going to show you what happens if they fall for it and then I would appreciate comments.

In your last one, instead of Nxf7, Improve Your Opening Play by Chris Ward has a different line. "In fact 6 d4! exd4 (Nxd4 loses a piece after 7 c3) 7 0-0 Be7 is losing to 8 Nxf7! Kxf7 9 Qh5+. An attempt to protect the twice-attacked knight with 9...Ke6 falls flag on account of 10 Re1+. Worth mentioning too is 7...Be6 8 Re1 Qd7 when White can deliver a crushing blow.

"Did you spot Nxf7!! Well, then you would have observed that Bxf7 is illegal, 9...Qxf7 leaves the d5-knight en prise and 9...Kxf7 10 Qf3+ is devastating because of either 10...Kg8 11 Rxe6 Qxe6 12 Bxd5 or 10...Kg6 Rxe6+ Qxe6 12 Bd3+."

ok thanks guys that will help me a lot in my games but what happens if when you play d4 then they dont play exd4?

what are the different options for them and how would they be played against by white (myself)??

Cant the elephant 1 be avoided?

Sugden1403

sorry i dont understand paul211 can you just explain the lines to me please?

Basel

nice ones

interesting :)

Sugden1403

yes the elephant can be avoided by just not being grabby and taking the pawn on d5...

the only negative of this post is that all my potential/current opponents are seeing my traps!

chessmagic5

All nice.

Lucky I dont have to worry about them because I dont play the given openings.

I dont play 2...d6 in the Sicilian and I play 1...Nf6 against 1.d4. :-)

arunchess

One must know these and similar other lines which ate very effective in short live games. It almost paralyses opponent for few seconds so you win even if he comes up with correct reply which is rare !

Sugden1403

chessmagic5 - that is fair enough but the trap on d4 is for black, not white!

arunchess...I understand what you are saying but these traps if not fallen for do sometimes bring out a fair position in a long game - for example the d4-d5 trap is just the Cambridge Springs defence for Black if white notices it and plays Nf3 instead of taking the pawn!

Theodred

White gets a shaky game against the Cambridge Spring lines...

true ..
