Hello!

I build my repertoire and have a big problems, especially with withe pieces. I play 1.e4. So i think about this:

1. against sicilian-closed sicilian

2.against 1...e5-vienna game with 3.f4????

3. against 1...e6-2.f4

4.against 1...Nf6-2.Nc3

5.against 1...c6-3.f3

6.against Pirc defence-f4 variation

 Any suggestions or advices?

With black pieces i play till now Scheveningen sicilian and French defence. Now i think to play on one of this two defences. Which???

Any good advices???

It's not about what openings you know. It's about what works for your style of play.

When I start to be serious with chess, I was stunned with how many opening there are. I was lost. I wanted to have an answer when someone ask me what I like to play. So I picked openings by names. Hey, French sound cool, so when someone ask me what do I play, I will say French. So I played French for some time, and had 65-35 score with it, but not played to many serious players. But I always got my self in positions that do not suit for me. I know most variations but that did not help much, as when book stops I was not in position that I liked.

Last year I found a book about openings. But one that does not give only zilion of variations. Yes it had all variations, but with explanation why is one played, and what is an idea behind it.

There are many styles of play. I played a lot of people here. Ones that go for material gain, ones that like positional games, and when it finally breaks up I see that I am doomed at 5 spots at the same time. I played the ones that as soon as they see where my king is castled they go right after him.

I learned that there are ways to open and avoid some variations and still be where you want to be. I learned that if you want to play French as black you can not start attack on your king side.

You must know your week and strong sides and build your repertoire based on that. After 500 games here I am still learning. I try to avoid early simplifications as I am not that good in endgames. I'm trying to avoid early complications as my calculating skills are not yet that good.

But for one to know, you must try all. If learning will mean that my rating will go 100 points up and down every few week, so be it.

I never played gambits in my life, if you do not count QG. Now I am starting to get used to it and understand it better.

First, i play chess for many years and now i decided to classify my knowlege. But i won't play all defences like i do till now. I want to focus on few defences.

So i know a basic plans of all openings and main lines, but i need that final advice which defences should i keep in my repertoire.

I like lines - little bit forgotten and solid- a ideal suprise weapons and main point that oponent have few chances to avoid them.

If you are talking about traps in little known position, good players will always see them.

As I sad, there is no good or bad opening. Only ones that you like or not.

From my expirience, it is not important what opening you play, it is more important how do you play it. I simple took 2-3 openings and anylize their traps, posibilities and posibile positions.

Against 1.e4, Scheveninguen Sicilian is more ambitious but requires more work than French Defence. Your repertoire looks fine to me : which problem do you have with it ?

I dont have any problem, but i'm tired to play all defences and i will to chose some of them-i'm looking for advice if is my plan good or not. If isn't what to change on my list.

There is nothing wrong in your list per se. It depends on your objectives : do you want to become a very strong player, to pick easy-to-play systems which don't require too much study, to learn a lot about chess, to play slightly original, to get attacking/positional games, to surprise your opponents, etc.

So your going to play the french defense as black, but as white your going to go 2.  F4????  This makes little sense.  A defense you play as black, you will learn what is hardest for you to deal with, and thats what you should play as white.  If you get beaten, you will learn better how to play your defense.  I cant imagine the line you have had the most trouble with is 2.  F4.
