What is the best opening move when you are playing as white? And What is the best opening move when you're playing as black? Give me some reasons why.

benedictus

As white, I play 1. e4. Against 1... e5 I play Ruy Lopez. It gives white really nice play and many times puts black in a very difficult position. Against other defenses, black is generally the one who chooses what line is played.

As black: Against 1. e4 I play Scandinavian. It gives black a solid and relatively equal position. Also, most players aren't very prepared for Scandinavian (it's not a relatively unpopular opening), so they don't know how to deal with it properly and many times giving black a slight advantage. Against 1. d4 I usually play a King's Indian Defense and transpose to a Benoni. This leads to pretty sharp play giving both sides many chances.

1. e4

I've tried almost everything (except 1. g4), but I think I've settled on this - or rather, I don't feel like having to learn a new opening repertoire anymore. Why do I prefer it over 1. d4? It gets you one step closer to castling.

1. ... e6

A near-universal opening move as Black. Leads to French (against e4) and Stonewall Dutch (against d4/c4). Why? Because I made a decision awhile ago to find a system to play as Black that didn't involve too much study. The Dutch especially tends to play itself, and the French, once you've played it enough, has a solid feel and recognizable plans.

Are those moves the best? Only 3200 ELO computers running for 1000 years can answer that. But they tend to work for me.

As white I play queen´s pawn game then followed by queens gambit if opponent answered with d5. with this you gain more space and control over the center of the board then you can easily build-up attack strategy. just be prepared for the slav defence, nimzo-indian or king´s indian.

As black I prefer sicilian against King´s pawn game. this also prevents white to control the center. you will also have a lot of defence options when white starts to build up italian game.

I tested most opening moves available until now , but the ones i played the longest have surely been the Birds , KBG,GPA as White and Dutch Lenin + QD6 Scandi with Black.

But as timed out several months now I restarted plaing as I discovered this Site I wanted to go with some new ones.

So changed to English, CK and the Leningrad stays.

I have found that moving the king pawn (kings gambit) forward allows you to move more pieces forward. I have also found that moving your queen or knight out too early can sometimes be hazardous. This goes for both colors.

benedictus

Moving the knight out early can be hazardous???

What kind of opening do you play without moving the knight out near the beginning?

Also, 1. e4 is NOT King's Gambit. KG is 1. e4 e5 2. f4.

I like 1. d4 because it is difficult for black to get an advantage. As black I like 1. e4 e5 and play the semi-slav against 1.d4 because I can understand the positions better than the sicilian or KID.

With white i play the English Botvinnik setup

With black against 1.d4 i play the QGD

With black against 1.e4 i play the Caro-Khan, Pirc, and others im experimenting with

You're searching for something that is not there.  There is no best opening.  It all depends on your style.

And (because i cannot seem to send you a message or leave you a note), your opening you're using against me is a lemon.  It loses the Bishop.  If the site would let me move, I would play bxa1 taking your rook with my pawn (winning back the rook), and then take your bishop.  It's that simple.  So never play that opening in real serious play (or at least don't play that variation because you lose the bishop)
