Can someone teach me (or help me) Learn the Ponziani

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3

pleewo

GothamChess made a chessable course and it includes the Ponziani, if you have the money you can get the book version for 50 pounds, or around 30 if you get it on sale.

https://www.chessable.com/the-gothamchess-1-e4-repertoire/course/147580/

It's not a bad course, I'm working through the Sicilian chapters. But it's probably not worth it to get the videos if you are on budget.

if you are not willing to spend money, you should be able to find some stuff on Youtube.

Eric Rosen made a video about it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqZLFyZbfDk

Saint Louis Chess Club also has a video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8cgOXnnibo

I wouldn't recommend playing the Ponziani but it's not entire un-principled since it prepares d4.

Yet gothamchess had a video (only the extreme basics) It is tittled 'best opening'

pleewo

yet Gotham made this video about the '8 best videos' and the Ponziani wasn't one of them

Gothamchess overexaggerates his video titles to get people to click on them 👍

I play the scotch, uh for me it leads to very one sided games at some points

the REAL best opening for beginners: Nothing, just develop your pieces regularly like a chad.

You could play 1.e4, e5, and Nc3. but don't learn these extraordinary moves that Gotham recommends in his chessly 1.e4 course for example. Like this Qf3-Qg3 thing.

As a 500, I don't get why you should learn and play all these types of opening things.

What I recommend is just to play e4, Nf3, Nc3, Bf4, bc4 and 0-0 if you can!

Follow the general opening principles:

1. Control The Center

2. Castle Early

3. Develop your pieces

4. Don't bring your queen out too early.

If your opponent neglects these principles, you can punish them with a quick advance and you will see how powerful all your pieces become!

Even though something like e4, e5, Nc3, Nc6, Bc4, bc5, Qg4 will win you a lot of games, 500's shouldn't be learning all these moves in my opinion. At least if you want to improve.

( You don't have to listen to me, do whatever you want but this is my advice for chess improvement)

Focus on tactics, try to blunder one-mover's less, learn some basic endgames! Learn about outposts and weak squares.

back in the 1800's, Morphy was crushing everyone because he always followed opening principles.

He prioritised Rapid development over anything, and when his opponents didn't follow the opening principles as much as he did, he crushed them with his piece superiority, central control and beautiful tactical skill!

pleewo

Sure, he had pet openings such as the Evans Gambit or the Kings Gambit. But all his moves and motives revolved around central control, piece development and taking advantage of his opponent's weak king!
