Openings, Openings, Openings!

I've got a tournament coming up in two weeks... And I was wondering which openings I should try! I'm currently planning to rock my giucco piano and english as white and my nimzo-indian, kid and maybe even hippo (defense) or traxler (counter-attack) as black. Traxler's a surprise opening that hopefully I can get a quick mate on.

Any suggestions of any good openings I should use? I'm open to suggestions for white or black! I'm perfectly flexible!

Don't play for a win in the opening, play anny openings that gives you a safe midlegame with good play for your pices. Learn strategy and positional play...

Simply right answer to Skogli! I like "Mastering the opening" books (john Watson) for many elementary idea in the opening.

Save bomb openings like the Traxler for thematic tnmts, where everyone has to play the same garbage opening as White and Black. It's too easy for your opponents to "outbook" you in substandard openings (or simply outplay you if you don't know them all that well yourself)

Instead of counting on strangers to suggest openings for you you should determine your own preferences: do you like to attack, defend and/or counter-attack? Do you like open, semi-open or closed games? Do you like to play gambits or accept them?

About the only other advice I can think of is to start adopting openings you have  had trouble playing against, you might decide to add them to your repertoire or at least learn something useful about them
