Play a defence with white

Hi, i'm french, so i dont speak english well... sorry

My answer : Whith a game with an opening plan, like te pirc :

The game is equal for black and white, but if white, play the same plan, he will win a time, so he will be avantaged (?).

But if it's correct, white is clearly avantaged...

So where i am wrong ?

Thanks,

kosmeg

In Pirc white usually has a slight advantage due to the space advantage, but if you're playing the KIA with white you're just a bit more passive than you should play with white. However there's nothing wrong with KIA.

What Kosmeg said.

White is giving up some of the advantage of the first move. Rough estimate .2

of a pawn maybe? For some experienced players, directing the game into

unknown or lesser-known lines may suit their style as well as discomfit slightly

their opponent.

playing a defence as white is of course fine but if black knows how to play the side with the white pieces, the advantage for white would only be slight if there is one at all (It would most likely be equal since black would have alot of flexibility in choosing an opening plan). It's better to learn how to keep the initiative (which defences wouldn't do since black doesn't start with the initiative; the extra tempo would simply slightly speed up the slow plan).

Because white is able to move first - a natural initiative - he should not make passive or defensive moves.  The best defense is a good offense, so I always attack as much as I can as white - that is, if the moves are rational.  If I find myself under attack of black I normally take a defensive standpoint, slowing building up my army for yet another attack.
