It's a playable line. Basically you're ignoring white and asking what the plan is with the b4 pawn. Also possible is 1...d5 with normal development, while you completely ignore the b4 pawn.
The messy lines are with 1.b4 e5 2.Bb2 and then Bxb4 or f6!? (I think that's an old line from Fischer. To me this looks somewhat odd. I say play normal moves, but expect queen side action with a4 and/or c4. It's a bit like some English lines.
Hello everyone,
I recently joined a chess club for the first time in my life. In one of my first matches I was playing black and my oponent started with b4. I had never played something like that before. As I always play Pirc or Modern Defence with black, I tried to play a similar formation here. But it was a complete disaster: at move 12 I was two pawns down and my queenside had been crushed. Luckily, I could get it over and the match ended up in a draw. Once the match was over, I made some research in a chess database about this strange opening, and tried to find some answer for black that fit my playing style. This is what I found:
Do you think this is sound enough for black? I think it is, but I'd love to hear other opinions about it.
