Bishop variation: 2...Bb7:
White could play 3. Bd3 or 3. Nd2.
Well Yigor, being unconventional is good strategy in rapid games.
Hello Jamie, long time no see!
I mean
how is this supposed to be good tho
It's not supposed to be "good", but playable, sharp and tricky.
I dont trust this. the lines of 1.b4 with bxb4 require early c4. (they are some strange lines involving c3 that may also equalize but are very rarely played). The lines with e3, nf3 etc without c4 is actually slightly better for black after d5-c5. the Lines with early c4 are fine, but it is quite slow, and the first 10 moves of the game feel like White is playing perpetual catch up if black develops quickly. He cannot waste a tempo on a useless move without risking being worse.
The polish defense with bxb5 is too slow to play the equivalent c5. so you end up playing the e6-nf6 equivalent a tempo down. And this just cant be pleasant.
You can transpose to the St George after 2.e4 a6 but it has never been considered a reliable defense.

It's definitely too risky and unsound at your level.
I like queer openings.
