Hello everyone. I have actually been playing the Ponziani for a while in blitz games with good results against players rated 2000-2500. It's a tricky opening and alot of pitfalls for black but if black knows what he's doing he can equalize out of the opening. The thing is that not many people know the best way to answer the Ponziani.
For all of you who have no faith in the Ponziani I'd like to remind you that Magnus Carlsen beat Pentala Harikrishna with the Ponziani at the recent Tata Steel tournament in 2013. So the opening is not without venom!
We've batted around the ponz for ages here in a variety of threads. On the whole, it's not that great. But it is playable, as most anything is sub-GM level. So if you want to play it, OK, but as your opponents become higher rated than B- or A-class, you'll see a diminishing return on your opening play.
I have known that opening for a while but I have never played it. But I am wondering to try it. I saw this video on youtube about the opening. And it's kinda good and tricky!
