Queen's Gambit

I decided that in trying to learn openings, i was getting ahead of myself as basically a beginner. I was trying to find lines when i should be focusing on the main ideas. Therefore, can you all please share with me the main positional and tactical ideas in the Queen's Gambit, as well as the proper places to develop my pieces to and any tips for a beginner trying to learn a queen's pawn opening (Before I was playing a catalan-like system, but i decided before focusing on somehting like that it would be best to just learn the basics)

The Queens Gambit is a very complex opening, but playing it, you need to know alot of theory, as it can go badly wrong if your opponent does something you dont know what to do against. You need to study much to learn this opening, and it can be done by reading Playing the Queens Gambit by Lars Schandorff, review here:
