Question about the English Opening

Lately I've been revamping most of my opening rep as black, trying to find stuff that suits my style better.  And I am trying to figure out what I should play vs 1 c4

I like sharp tactical games where I have space  in the position.

for example 1d4 I played the Tarrasch which I did well with but it tend to bore me. I try switching to KID since it is played so much by GMs but due to the closed positions going against my style I did  awful. atm I am trying and liking the nimzo so far.

1e4 I used to play the Najdorf nothing wrong with it just got tired of it after countless games i guess, recently switched to the Accelerated Dragon

I will look forward to your suggestion thanks :)

ahh you can play c4 c5 for kind of a macorzy bind scilian dragon

If you like sharp tactical positions, it doesn't seem like the Acc. Dragon or Nimzo-Indian/Queen's Indian are great choices, at least from my limited experience. I believe the mainline Dragon or Nadjorf are generally considered more tactical than the Acc. Dragon (e.g., with 5. c4 after the more normal 4... g6; also, keep an eye out for 6. Nxc6 bxc6 7. e5 in your diagram), and I believe there are more tactical approaches to the QG than the Nimzo-Indian (Grunfeld, Semi-Slav, etc.).  Not that these are bad choices or anything -- they just don't strike me as typical 'tactical' openings.

Against c4, you could always simply play e5, aiming for a reversed Sicilian set-up. If you like tactical games, playing the "white" side if the Sicilian should appeal to you. Otherwise, you could try playing one of the Indian defenses against c4, hoping for a transposition or at least aiming for more familiar territory.

I play the Nimzo indian and the Najdorf. The King's indian gives lots of space though and so does the Grunfeld

If you like space then the Sicillian Dragon.

I used to play the grunfeld alot until I couldn't break whites center no more. Thats why I stop playing that against white

I don't think they did.  But, you could have at least given him a suggestion as well

To the op try out the reversed sicilian(1.c4, e5) I personally like the 2 b-b4 if white plays n-c3.  Give that a shot

sorry guys well what I play against the english is c6 d5. You get to keep your center pawn basically. Or you could try out what everybody else is saying and thats e5

Jaguarphd

I play the grand prix attack for black against the english

whats that jaguar can you post a game or something please

I mostly play 1. c4 as white, and most of the 1. . .c5 responses that I get from black tend to lead to more closed and positional games.  I might recommend "The Keres System" for you, as taken from Tony Kosten's The Dynamic English.  1. c4, e5  2. g3, Nf6  3. Bg2, c6

Kosten also claims that if white plays the more common 2. Nc3, that's good for black in this set-up.  In my experience, when I've encountered these games they have tended to be rather sharp, tactical, and aggressive.

Count me as #3 in this thread to recommend a reversed sicilian against the English if you like rough an tumble games.
