Resources for learning the Grunfeld?

Any ideas? I have Jacob Aagaards book Starting Out: the Grunfeld but the coverage of some of main variations are very brief. I also found FM Lilov's videos here on chess.com too brief and unrelated to the variations I wish to play.

I plan on learning the Classical Exchange (7.Bc4 and 8.Ne2) 10...Qc7 line, and the Modern Exchange (7.Nf3 and 8.Rb1) 9...Nc6 variation. Are there any books or internet resources with in-depth analysis of games with these variations?

I use Jonathan Rowson's book for "understanding" the ideas and Dembo's as reference. I don't know about Aagard's book and I didn't learn much from those Lilov videos either tbh. I highly recommend both books... especially Rowson's.

Edit: Dembo's book looks at 9...b6 in 8.Rb1 line and 10...Na5 in 7.Bc4

I did take a look at Dembo's, but like you said, the variations it covers I am not so interested in. Thanks for the reccomendation for Rowson's, book I will definlately get it!! I had taken a look at some of the Grunfeld books on amazon, but I guess I must have missed that one

i never understood what motivated people to play the grunfeld. Variation starting on move 9.. and 10..? no thanks.

The longest variation I have in my repertoire starts at like move 8.. or or 9.. and thats just one single line.

To answer your question though, when I was in my phase of learning theoretical openings I looked into the book 'the safest' grunfeld which I think, from memory recommends the Qc7 variations, though I may be wrong.

Lot depends on your rating and your goal. If you want to learn everything about the grunfeld the best books are clearly the Grandmaster Repertoire series by Boris Avrukh but the book is aimed at 2000+

Marcus-101

Yea I'm not sure they're for me..

I've got Rowsons book, and it is fantastic with the explanations and will definately read it, but there is not much coverage on the variations I am interested in (10...Qc7 and 9...Nc6 lines)

Marcus-101

Is there any detailed coverage with explanations (that rules out the Grandmaster Repertoire book!!) on these lines in any recent books?

Stormstout

Glad you liked his book, sorry I don't know any books with those lines though.

Lubomir Fatacnik's Gruenfeld dvd is decent.

Normally I love DVD's since i am lazy but i do not like the Fatancnik DVD on the Grunfeld.

It is just moves moves moves. No explanation not advices lines. Just all the moves in different games.

Okay, Ftacnik's DVD is ruled out then... as for those threads NimzoRoy, I will look at them now! :)

Yeah.I didn't like it either.Just thought it was worth consideration as some people prefer raw lines and moves and don't care for the explanations.

Thanks everyone, but I think I'm going to stick with what I've got now as there does not seem to be any books on the 10...Qc7 nor 9...Nc6 lines. :/
