d5 break is not that good for black. it weakens e5 and if he covers the pawn with f6 he weakens kingside
yeah, d5 really isn't that bad for white.

I started this thread so I will tell you my thoughts.
I am in 2 tourneys now for the Italian or Giuoco Piano opening. For me this is harder than the Ruy. I have to worry about the 2 knights defence and the Evans Gambit - whether I am black or white - or just unusual plays by black. I do not as yet feel secure.
I'm sticking with it. But it seems like it is much slower and less open than the
Ruy Lopez.
You can't comment on my games as they are just getting started. Maybe when they are over if you want to.
The Ruy is more exciting to me. Maybe that's just because the Italian is new now.
I feel sorry that I ever said I was tired of the Ruy.

When you said "it seems much slower" I instantly disagreed!!
But really, play whatever you want to play, and whatever you're comfortable playing.

which line of italian game are you playing?
I'm new at this opening, but I think I've used the two knights defence and Evans Gambit. I'm playing Giuoco Piano as white.

i see. you might want to try out the giuoco pianissimo. it was always my favourite while playing 1.e4 because i got ruy lopez like positions without playing the ruy lopez but i guess its a matter of taste:) what do you play against the two knights defence? its when black moves knight to f6 instead of bishop to c5

1st diagram i play 4. d4 (two knights defense open variation) and sometimes 4. Ng5 (knight attack)
2nd diagram i play 4. b4 (evan`s gambit - my favorite)

Personally, I always play Ng5.
I play b4 or c3. It depends. I like the Greco Attack and Evan's Gambit.
