Scandinavian Defense (1e4, 2d5)

I play it as Black. After White takes the offered pawn, I play 2. ... Nf6. It’s a fun way to challenge the opponent on the very first move and put them out of any openings that they may have studied. When I do lose with the Scandinavian, it’s usually not because of the opening, but because I blunder in the middle or end game. I like Scandinavian (with 2. ... Nf6), and it’s seems reasonably effective at amateur level where I live.

I like it. I play the Qa5 mainline. it cuts down on a lot of opening study. Better to spend that time on endgames and tactics.

I play the 3...Qa5 version. I use the repertoire book The Scandinavian for Club Players. A really good book, actually teaches.
The Scandinavian is not a top tier defense but it's ok on the club level. Even some top players use it on occasion, including Carlsen.
I play it, so far I have noticed you need to be good in endgame. Rooks and pawns endgames. Also you can get destroyed when they sacrifice on f7 or push the h-pawn down the board. White Pawns on d4 and c4 can get scary too.
