Glad to hear you're finding a way to cope with that stroke! I find videos a pretty darned good way of learning anything, here's a list of results on the YouTube I got from querying "chess scotch game opening".
PHOTRAY AND CALUM , THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS, I WILL KEEP ON TRYING TO BETTWER MY CHESS.
AS FAR AS THE STROKE MY LEG IS IMPROVING, HOWEVER MY ARM AND HAND ARE ABOUT THE SAME, EVEN THOUGH I'M SWIMING ABOVE UNDER WATER PRETTY GOOD. I HAVE A GOOD FRIEND FROM PHILLIPINES AND ONE FROM FLORIDA THAT ARE HELPING ME A LOT
ALONG WITH YOU GUYS, I SHOULD PROGRESS IN MY CHESS GAME EVENTUALLY
THANKS TONY
The Colle is a rather unambitious opening that only works against certain setups. It stinks vs the KID. So lots of people combine it with the Boring System (it is really boring). I think highly of the Scotch and think it gives a good chance for an advantage for White. Be sure to research some of the lines like exd4 Nxd4 Qh4 or else they might throw you for a loop. I wouldn't play the Colle, although it is perfectly fine.
I'M ONLY DISABLED IN SO FAR AS MY LEFT HAND CANNOT OPEN
HOWEVER MY WALKING IS GETTING BETTER AND I NOW WALK MOST OF MY TIME WITHOUT MY CANE
THANKS FOPR ASKING, IN MEXICO TWO YEARS AGO, I ATTENDED A WEDDING ON THE BEACH FOR A COUPLE FROM ENGLAND, HE WAS INTO SOCCER AND HIS TIME WAS PLAYING SPAIN FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP, I FORGET WHERE HE WAS FROM , BUT HIS NAME WAS DAVID AND DID TILE WORK FOR A LIVING
THANKS FOPR ASKING TONY FROM NEW JERSEY SHORE, USA
calum, i write in caps, not meaning disrepect or yelling, i just had a habit of using it because i figured it would be easier to read, thanks for your response tony
KILLABEEZ, I LIKE YOUR COMMENTS, I PLAYED THE COLLE BECAUSE A COUPLE OF FRIENDS WHO PLAYED IT WERE HAPPY AS IT GAVE YOU FAST DEVELOPEMENT, BUT I LIKE THE P5ROTECTION OF A PAWN STRUCTURE LIKE THE STONEWALL ADDED TO IT.
THE SCOTCH I PLAYED PRIOR TO THE COLLE, CAN YOU SEND ME LINKS TO SOME GOOD FREE ARTICLES ON THE SCOTCH AS I ALWAYS DID LIKE IT
AND WHO WAS THE BEST PLAYER NOTED FOR PLAYING IT (OTHER THEN KASPAROV AGAINST KARPOV IN THE 1990 CHAMPIONSHIP OR WAS IT 1991
MY EMAIL IS antne003@verizon.net, i'm just trying to improve my game since my stroke, , bill wall is giving me some constructive criticism, but
i still give away pieces, i gather you have the nickname of the kid
WELL I AM HAPPY TO GET YOUR ADVICE, WISH I COULD STAY IN CONTACT FOR ANY CHESS ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE ME. THANKS TONY
No problem. The Colle is rather easy to learn and is quite solid, but I don't think it gives White a big try for an advantage. Maybe a minute one, but definitely not one somebody of our caliber could win a game with. I will try to get some links on the Scotch. Hope that helps!
I play the scotch fairly often and I like it. I think it can lead to some good opportunities for white.
calum, killabeez and other members, i knew i would get some help if i asked, my chess club host keeps saying develope, develope , develope
how many times am i attack and how many times can i defend
don't move same piece twice in the opening and don't attack until developed and king castled and safe, I ADMIRE HIM, HE IS OLDER THEN ME, BUT YEARS PLAYING CHESS
THANKS AGAIN ALL OF YOU TONY SOLIS
Hi antne003,
Take a look at this site:
This first is long but very good or refresher. I assure you that both the Colle and the Scotch are discussed on this site.

Antne(Tony) in Philly I'm known as "Antonooch"
To my sister whom I annoyed during our childhood I became known as "Agony"
I hope the site helps.
Used copies of WINNING CHESS TRAPS, by Irving Chernev are very cheap paperbacks online from Powell's Books. They mail it out to you in the USA.
I would recommend you buy this book and play The Cambridge Springs Defense (whenever possible) against 1. P-Q4 (or 1. d4). You find it in Chernev under The Queen's Gambit Declined section. Also look at the Queen's Gambit Accepted in Chernev. It is easy to play, just develop your pieces as fast as possible and you should not have any trouble playing the QGA. The Cambridge Springs Defense probably has more traps than any opening in chess. If you are playing a Colle or a Stonewall make your first two moves (for White) d4 and then e3. I personally prefer (1. f4) and the Leningrad Dutch Reversed (which can transpose into the Grand Prix variation of the Sicilian Defense). In this forum I have recommended the Nimzovitch Defense for beginner/intermediates. It is a KP defense. In an early book by Hooper he recommended the QGA and the Petroff Defense (also called the Russian Defence) for beginners to start out with. Some Russian masters adopted it, but Petroff was actually a Latvian. The former world champion, Mikhail Botvinnik, often played the Dutch Stonewall early in his career with the Black pieces. You might want to find a few of his old games with it in the 1930's and 1940's.
DEAR MEMBERS
I am looking for any member who has had good experiences with the
scotch game or colle systems and which one you prefer and why?
also looking for a place i can get the most free information on these openings, i am a above beginner player, but am no great player by any means, I became again interested in chess again due to a stroke i had
and i am getting hooked on it even though, the openings are confusing to me, I belong to a local club and know opening basics, however i am
facinated about them and looking for one that has fast developement like the colle-zukertort and the pawn protection of the stonewall?
I FEEL THIS WOULD BE THE BEST FORUM TO ASK MY QUESTIONS.
many tell me to stick to one opening even though i lose in order to find
your mistakes(but which opening?)
THANKS TONY antne003@verizon.net
