The scotch is solid, is one of my least favorite openings to play as black.
SCOTCH GAME OPENING

dear photray, yes i'm using it a lot with great results, but i found my key is to develope and castle as quick as possible before starting any attack
whats the difference in the scotch game and the goring gambit(i thought that was the scotch game also, does this develope quicker and if so , why?
thanks tony antne003

photray94, yes thanks, i keep on chugging along, but i'mn still verymuch interested in chess
thanks tony from jersey shore antne003

dear antonooch, billyidle and photoray94
i thank you all for you suggestions and i will in deed atytempt to try them
thanks tony (antne003)

dear photray94, yes, thankyou, my left leg is doing great, i'm walking more with my cane but still have a richie brace thats working great.
my main problem is my left hand(it hasn't moved since stroke, opening the fingers.
This bothers me because prior to the strtoke, i was highly involved in the martial arts for over 35 years(goju karate, usfj judo, aikido and philipino stick and knife fighting), now i can open my left hand. but i'm righthanded so i'll be back with stick, knife and cane
yes i'm still playing scotch opening but lost 10 times to an older guy at club, in the interum, i beat him one game and he came back and beat me three more
i will not quit take care antne003(tony)

Dude,
When Kasparov played the Scotch against Anand, I was sold. The Scotch was used in a Word Championship match. What more do you need to know?

PHOTRAY94, THANKS FOR ASKING, IT NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME AS TO HOW MANY GOOD AND KIND PEOPLE THEIR ARE ON THIS SITE. I DON'T know if thats a word, but i know what you mean.
i've been doing great with my scotch opening for white , as the host of our chess club comes over my house and helps me polish it every tuesday nite and our club meets on monday 7:00pm to 9:00pm
(there are only three of us, but i beat the host monday of which made me very happy

dear MIKE MARNO, by caps i don't mean no disrespect as i was told by other membersd that it yelling, i'm not, i just feel it was easier to read, i'm a 61 yr. retired chief iof police from stone harbor, new jersey
i love the scotch and want to learn as much as i can, i have books on ity, but really want to find the best one that explains what move it meant to do.
as black i play caro kann against e4 and the sla against d4.
if you want to write my email is antne003@verizon.net

Tony, I HAVE FOUND AN OPENING THAT I REALLY LIKE, IT IS CALLED THE "GRUENFELD INDIAN DEFENCE" I THINK IT IS D85 ON THE "ECO". IT BASICALLY GIVES WHITE ALOT OF TEMPO AND IF YOU READ INTO IT YOU CAN FIND SOME REALLY COMPLEX LINES. HOPE I HELPED.
ALSO THE CATALAN OPENING IS REALLY GOOD AND I LOOKING INTO THAT AT THE MOMENT. HOPE I HELPED ONCE AGAIN.
CALUM, (chessman_calum)

dear photray94
I DON'T THINKS ITS A WORD, BUT I UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU MEANT
i just got out of hospital and rehab, i was in after i took acouple of falls, they thought i had a mini stroke, but the m.r.i. showed negative.
i had two stents put in my left carotid artery
as it was closed to 80% and now they opened it to 25%
they also thought i had a spot on my lung, the m.r.i again showed negative.
but glad to be home and thanks for your thoughts

MEMBERS, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR COMMENTS, I AM STICKING WITH THE SCOTCH FOR WHITE and will play it whether i win or lose so i can attempt to find my weak spots
as black for a defense i'll try to learn the caro kann against e4 and the slav against d4
i thought of the alekine also, but those two are enough for the time being
thanks tony (antne003)

dear photray and other members who responded to my post, i just got out of hospital again and rehab after i fell, broke my shoulder and they think i had another mini strong but m. r. i. didn't show anything new, but mini strokes don't leave any signs that i had another one.
i had 2 corotid stents put in my left corotid artery due to it being closed to 80%, now they
opened it to25% which is great, i feel good now but have 3 week therapy for my shoulder
back to chess. i'm playing better with scotch as white, but need help with my caro kann as a black defense and have a lot of questions, i'm asking you if you have any good friends that are good with caro kann
give them my email as i have a lot of questions?
my email is antne003@verizon.net
thanks tony (antne003)
These are two completely different openings. The Colle is slow and solid. The basic idea is development with equality and familiar mid-games. The Scotch game is quick and very tactical, full of traps and can get very complex. It is a wonderful opening for the attacking tactician, but remember that tactics work both ways.
Try them both for a while and see which fits your personality and you enjoy playing it. Then get a book or two on your opening and study it to really make it YOUR opening.
Regards,
Mike
