You’ve hardly played any games. If you are 1200 here or on the L site then probably not but if you are solidly 1200 OTB USCF then maybe

i don't think 1200 counts as intermediate anywhere. i would say 1800 is intermediate. if you like it no amount of sensible logic can stop you really. it's not going to help in overall improvement as the positions you get are mostly just unique to the dragon and nothing else. so you have a limited range of positions you can play. also it's very specific. i think white has easier play whether either or both of you know theory or not. maybe i should say it differently, black's position is difficult to play. but again it all depends on what you want to achieve in chess.

below 2000 (maybe more), sicilian is too complicated and shouldn't be considered...

1.e4 e5, 1.e4 e6, or 1.e4 c6 are easier and more educational.

I think people should play whatever they want, and if the only reason they want to play an opening is because it has a cool name, then so be it.  At least they're studying something.  The dragon is sharp and unbalanced and will teach board awareness, if nothing else.  Of course there are more productive uses of their time, but the dragon seems to almost be a rite of passage for new players.
