There is a previous topic about something called the San Francisco Gambit but I didn't find anything specifically about the California variation.

Apparently it is a line with 2...a6 played sometimes by Silman.

Does anybody know what the moves of the California Variation might be? I seem to remember a discussion of it from Chess Life, perhaps in the 1980#, perhaps in a Soltis column, but I haven’t been able to locate it anywhere.
