Sicilian Nimzo, dead?

What happened to the Sicilian Nimzowitsch line (2... Nf6). I´m playing through this old book atm, and it pops up here and there, but I haven't seen it once in modern play. It never pops up in the "minor theory but still decent opening"-books that exists for pretty much every opening there is.

What made it so dead? When was the last time it was played reguarily? Was it ever? Is there a "refutation" or did it just go out of fashion?

As you might have noticed, this thread is created mostly due to curiosity, and I´m not planning on playing it.

I guess it's just not as good as mainlines. Some lines for white are 3 e5 Nd5 4 Nc3 as well as 4 c3 and 4 d4, and it looks like white has chances for a safe edge. That's coming out of the game explorer.

I'm sure I saw it played in some Corus B or C game this week, but I can't remember by whom.

I don't think as a suprise move or just to keep things fresh this would be a bad option at all. It seems tricky to play against.
