Sicilian Sveshnikov Questions

I have recently been essaying the Sicilian Sveshnikov, and I seem to be pretty happy with the resulting positions that I have been getting, even with my kingside pawn structure being wrecked early on.  Here is the general idea that I have been adopting.  I wonder if anyone else has any better suggestions for me?

hmmmmmmmm... i've seen this a couple of times but naturally.. if u had to choose wudnt you rather white in this position?? Because if you're playing white i'm pretty sure you can exploit that weak king side but it will take some time.. with that missing pawn things might get difficult later on. But on the flip side.. the Knight on a3 is useless... and as it stands black looks the more threatening of the two.

Lets say 16. Qh5 i'd expect black to respong with 16. ... h6. now the little amt of pawn cover black's king had is dwindling dangerously but its fair to say that white posses little to no danger here..

If i'm wrong about anything.. please clarify Laughing

The Sveshnikov is an interesting and dynamic opening, but tends to have problems when white plays an early c2-c4, breaking up Black's queenside structure and supporting d5.

Is c4 the main line? it looks nice but c3 seems to have more games with it.

I have played the sveshnikov quite a bit as black and faced it as white as well. 14 Qf3 is not the usual move I dont believe.  14 Qh5 is far more common.

c4 isn't the main line.  However, most Sveshnikov players will tell you it is a pain to play against.  In my opinion, it's White's only try for a clear advantage.

Yes, my computer has played Qf3 and Qe2 in those positions...I don't think they are that strong...note, I don't play against Fritz at full strength, but on friend mode...so the matchups are a bit more equal.  I was looking for a setup in the Svesh that is a bit easier to handle than some of the crazy lines, like ...Rg8 and such.  I thought the setup with ...Rc8 was okay, and that playing either ...Ne7 or ...f5 was okay as well.  I like ...Rc8 and have been regularly using it, although in my book at the house, I have also seen ...Rb8.  But the setup I have chosen is not in the book.  I would assume that was because it is maybe not as dynamic as a practitioner of this opening would like to choose.

Actually, the other day my computer did choose c4 at an early stage, seeking to strengthen the knight's position, and I pushed the pawn to b4 (I could have taken as well, but I wanted to explore the other avenue).

There are many lines in this system, not the least of which are some of the early deviations from the "main lines".  For example, White has several options on move 6.    6.Nb3, 6.Nxc6, 6.Nde2, and 6.Nf5 are all playable options.  It is important to know how to handle these deviations as Black since they usually lead to easy equality.

I had a teacher one time (sorry, I cannot remember what he showed me right now) and he showed me why Ndb5 was the strongest choice for White... I remember asking him, why Ndb5?  I am one of those kind of people who wants to know why...personally, I don't care too much for Nbd5, but I have never really explored the opening a lot. Nde2 might be interesting, or I might go back to f3 just for the sake of an original opening.

As far as Be6 is concerned, I am sure it is playable, and am surprised to hear Rybka say it is better...but then again, I don't go just by a few points here and there on a computer...I know that the Sicilian according to first move gives White advantage, but it is still a combative system that gives Black chances.

Castle Queen side and push the rook to g8 i think that is better

I essayed the Be6 line against the computer and got an open f-file after Be6 Bc4 and eventually Bxe6 fxe6, and it worked out well for me...but then again, no promise of always seeing Bxe6 either!  But most of the time, I do play b5.
