Slaying the Dragon #2

I generally have pretty good luck against the dragon. Here i use Fischer's trademark sac of the exchange to mate my opponent =)

shuttlechess92

just a few tips. normally you don't do Bxg7 as white because it allows black a chance to play Rh8, securing the h-file. instead, just play 15. h5.

16.fxg4 is kind of weird. I've never seeen that played before - i think the immediate h5 might have been better - with my continuation listed above instead. so it should go something like this:

shuttlechess92

focus on the 2nd variation. it's pretty sick =)

nice

lol the computer analysis just came back. apparently i fumbled the forced mate with 22.Qxh5. I don't think it's a big deal though cuz he'd've had to surrender his Queen to stop it =)

this was a good game :) thank you for helping me out with that... i analysed this whole variation and i found a new idea to play... Thanks again i don't mind you using my username :D

Your opponent has no idea how to play the dragon besides memorizing opening lines. Your opponent should have played 8...0-0 and 9...d5! Otherwise I beleive it is a forced win for white since you gained 3 tempi from not moving your f1 bishop.

clearly you have no idea how to play the dragon. After 9...d5? white plays Kb1! and in all lines is either getting a good advantage or simply winning.

black must play 9...d5. With proper play, at best white has a very small advantage.

I might screw up and draw, but I guarantee that I won't lose.

General Lee YOU have no idea what you are talking about. Do you even know why they started playing Bc4 before 0-0-0? It was to stop the "freeing" move d5! Now a days they realise it is not equal, but whites advantage is very minimal. I am open to a challenge if you want to get crushed?

bondiggity

Indeed. Although white will maintain a slight advantage in the 9. O-O-O, that doesn't mean that 9...d5 is by any means wrong. It must be played, and I wouldn't be that surprised if anything else theoretically lost.

U wanna play too buddy? the "freeing" move of d5 is simply unsound. And yes, i do know why they started playing 9.Bc4. but they were wrong to do it.

P.S. my challenging page is messed up so u'll have to send the challenge, and YOU will get crushed =)

bondiggity

There is no doubt that after 9...d5 is the best response to 9. O-O-O. I wouldn't be surprised if anything else theoretically lost, whereas it has been proved that against perfect play black can at least draw.

And against non-perfect play, the dragon attack may be too much to resist. It is still viable.

General-Lee

idk about that BD. I can't claim to prove that one because my play is very far from perfect =P

bondiggity

I mean aren't you basing this whole argument on that Roman Dzindzichashvili video you saw? I mean he concluded there that black can draw. I don't understand why you think otherwise.

General-Lee

because, very few (no) people play as well as Rybka, which found the draw. Btw, gg, you beat me fair and square.=)

bondiggity

That goes both ways though, as white can't play perfectly either.

As far as our game goes, I was really surprised as after a few slips from you, the attack just seemed to be there. It was really surprising and gratifying.
