I play Spanish, it really depends on style.
Spanish, Italian, or Scotch?

I like the Spanish, and almost always play it, but sometimes I play the Italian or Scotch to mix it up a little, all good openings.

Oh, and why?
The Spanish is really rich in its middlegame ideas. Sometimes I'm attacking, sometimes I'm defending. Sometimes I play on the queenside or center, sometimes it's my opponent who plays on the queenside or center. It's just a lot of variety.
The Scotch is a little more... it's less about structure and more about dynamics.
The Italian is more like the Spanish i.e. pawn structure stuff, but it's just a different flavor, so it's nice sometimes.

Can become an Evans gambit or I can play c3 Italian. They’ve been part of my repertoire for years, although recently I’ve been playing Birds and 1.Nc3.

Ruy for me but might switch to Italian if I don't improve my play on the White side of the Wall and Chigorin soon

I like both the Italian and the scotch, and I would probably play e4 every game if it was guaranteed my opponent would play into those openings. But there is so many options for black that sadly I can't play either opening in serious games

I actually played all three of these openings at one point in my life. When i first started, I played the scotch (didn’t know any theory tho so I had no clue what I was doing), then I switched to the Lopez after watching some chess YouTube videos, then I played the Italian (Evans gambit + fried liver attack), and now i don’t play 1.e4 xD

PLAY D4 INSTEAD. DON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT MANY OPENING TRICKS IF YOU PLAY D4. E4 HAS TOO MANY TRICKS.

If you play d4 and don't play c4 8 can respect your post, but if you play c4 after d4 then...
Play e4, d4 c4 has loads of theory
