The Cochrane Gambit - Is it sound ?

My guess is that it is not sound. For no other reason that it is a sac early in the game, and cannot really be prevented.
But, Black's King's is not cosy, I must say. In a short form of the game, I would be put off playing the Petrov on that account.
Probably not sound, but not as crazy as it first appears either. A good thing about it is that most of white's compensation for the knight is immediate. You get two pawns plus removing black's right to castle. I think it's a very good practical try for a win. But it plays a little differently from other gambits, in that you don't have a significant lead in devolpment (having given away your only developed piece) instead you have the potential of a very strong pawn center, and the you have a little extra time in the opening, as black will have to spend some moves putting his king back unto a more reasonable square.

No way it is playable in long games. Might be pretty good for blitz/bullet though, as black has to defend with high precision, and just doesn't have enough time to calculate everything.

As I said, I play Petroff Defence and worried about Cochrane. I'M 1450. IN THE NEXT TOURNAMENT, THE HIGHEST OPPONENT CAN BE 1699. So I'll play this. Even in 90+30, the opponent may not see this: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Nxe5 d6 4. Nxf7 Kxf7 5. d4 Nxe4 ( ? ) 6. Qh5+ g6 ( 6... Ke6 7.Qe5 + +- ) 7. Qd5+ +-.
This is the Cochrane Gambit. What do you think about it ? Is it sound ? Can I play this in 90 min + 30 sec Tournaments ? [ I'm rated 1250 ELO, 1450 National Rating. ] As a Petroff Player with Black, I think this can be hard for Black. Engine says about -0.25. What is your opinion ?
