1.a4 d5 2.h4 e5 3.Nf3 Nc6 4.Nc3 e4 and you will waste more moves.

I hate to rain on anyone's parade but there's several valid reasons why you don't see too many "Crab Openings" in tnmts or game anthologies

If you want to get better at chess start playing 1.e4 instead.

ThrillerFan

Actually, that's not the Crab.  The Crab is deeper than that.  Depending on Black's move order determines the order of White's moves, but the Crab involves the following first 10 moves, in some order:

a4, h4, Na3, Nh3, c3, f3, Nc2, Nf2, d4, and e4 - Now you have the Crab!

the crap opening?

ThrillerFan

No, the Crap Opening is any of the following 3, take your pick:

1.e4 e5 2.f4??

1.e4 Nf6??

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 b5??

MrDamonSmith

Got crabs?

EnemyGenerator

LOL LMAO LMFAO

this whole analysis in the beginning is a big joke right ;)

raygarrety

is there a shrimp opening? cool crab opening awesome.

YOU'RE DOWN A PIECE!!!! EQUAL?!?!?!?!? REALLY? Seems like a bad opening, you're wasting two moves (a4 and h4) without getting center control. e4 later is good, but why not instantly?

EnemyGenerator

but is this sirious

1. your a piece down

2.blacks play can be easily improved

3. someone who thinks this is fine for white is not in the brightest mind

and then someone calls it awsome

The King's Gambit, Alekhine's Defense, and Benko Gambit are all well respected openings and are used by many grandmasters today.  I certainly don't believe those moves deserved "??".

Not the Benko Gambit.Never the Benko gambit.

MrDamonSmith

Who uses the Kings Gambit? I don't have a database available, that's why I ask.

Watch the forum called " How do you tackle unusual openings " here on chess.com !     The title says it, almost the same subject !

Guys, my bad... sorry if I said the positon was equal. Yes, I may be a "dumbhead' at chess... But I didn't notice that black was up a piece and everything else. My apologies.

The Crab opening was used in the rated game
GM Timur Gareev (2688) vs. Eric Sakuri (2031) at the
Hawaii International Open, March 21, 2015.

White won after an eventual a5! and Ra4!

Who wants crabs?

Nods69

I was told by an  IM  as a general rule opening named after an animal should not be played. I am prettty sure this is one of the should not play opening but fun to look at though. I mean who wouldn't want to explore an opening called "the Crab" regardless of how useful or good it is.
