I think it would depend on your style of play, and what you want to get out of an opening. Different players want different things from an opening. Some look to get a certain type of position; and others want to get a quick attack going. Which opening is best depends on your particular style of play and personality.

Ofcourse it must be added that 1. Na3 is the most succesful opening for white.
Ruy Lopez they say is the best opening! Either your pieces are white or black you always have the chance to win. I don't know any openings thou! I just play!
I think we analyse an opening by the endgames that arise after correct play. If the endgames are even, then the opening is good. If they favour one side or the other, then evidentally one side has played a wrong move- this opening is no good.
Surely not - in that case the Sveshnikov must be a bad opening.
1. d4
If 1... d5 then 2. c4 (Queen's Gambit)
If 1... Nf6 then 2. c4 and later go to Four Pawns Attack!!

Do we know why though? I mean, how do we analyze an opening? Central control? Development? Solidity? I know we are all a little bias when it comes to opening. I mean I love the Scandinavian, (1. e4 d5) but others beleive it is a simple win after 2. exd5. I fell the same of the Owen's (1. e4 b6). What are your bias's? This should be fun...
