Kings gambit
The solid gambit

I appreciate a single opinion, but I could use some additional ones, preferably with explanations why.

Evans. The King's Gambit opens squares around your own king, the Evans gambit leaves white's king very safe.

I agree the evans must be more solid/correct than the kings gambit. As white I get to castle ! Also, my database shows the Evans scoring 5% better than the KG and that means something..... The KG also leads to much more irrational play than the evans which means you simply MUST know more theory as the moves arent logical/easy to find in many positions....

Kings gambit if you know what you're doing and your opponent doesn't!
I think the litmus test for whether something is solid or not is best play from your opponent.
I am interpreting your term "solid" to me sound or better.
both gambits can be declined with equality easily.
both gambits are based on building a big center and using a development leed to presure f7
however, to play the kings gambit all that neads to happen is
1.e4..e5 2.f4 bam your there!
but the evans 1.e4.e5 2.Nf3...Nc6 3.Bc4...Bc5
so you must learn the ..........
Petrof 2......Nf6
philador 2....d6
elaphant 2.......d5
latvian 2........f5
2 knights.............. 3.................Nf6
all of wich are sound
plus the kings gambit has more plans and is better analysed so you can find things that agree with your style from a violent crazy atack like the muzio or a bizzare side line like
1.e4..e5 2.f4...exf4 3.Nc3?!...Qh4+ 4.Ke2 wich is unclear
I guess i just used a lot of words to say the kings cambit is more flexible and versitile

OK, but I'm having no problems whatsoever with playing the Petrov or Philidor, or even the 2ND, and the Elephant and Latvian gambits aren't too good for Black.
Which do you consider more solid: the King's Gambit or the Evans Gambit?
