but, almost everyone will fell for this trap, and if they dont take a knight, it will be free pawn

give me one example where a 900 has lost a game solely because they lost a pawn in the first 2 moves

Not only is the Damiano so rare that learning prep against it is entirely useless, but it’s also incorrect! 3. d4 is better than 3. Nxe5 because Black doesn’t have to take the knight, 3… Qe7 and Black kicks the knight and is fine but down a pawn.
Leave it to GothamChess to claim credit for a line he didn’t create in an obsolete opening that isn’t even optimal.

He never claimed credit for it, he just told people about it. Also this can be useful for learning about Qh5+ patterns when the f-pawn has been moved

which no one needs to learn as Qh5+ doesn't teach good chess principles

Lol because more beginners need to learn about playing an early Qh5.

Refrigerator321

When the f pawn is moved, yes. For example:

It's using the weak diagonal to the king to pick up material or force the king to move

Like this:

fremble

The d4 Damiano is actually really crazy. The line isn’t the most accurate since all the moves were made on very low depth, but man is it extremely complex and outright insane

LorddVandheer

I do prefer Nxe5 myself, I don't expect competence from someone who plays Damiano to begin with and the game is usually over once it starts. D4 and Bc4 seem like interesting alternatives though

I once played that opening but I knew something was amiss when they took the pawn. So I didn't take back.

Eventually I actually won the game.
