Vienna Gambit - What are the general ideas?

The Chess.com thematic tournament will start in 10 days and I have never played this opening.

What are the typical plans, continuation, motifs for both white and black?

Looking for a video on site or youtube but could not: do you know one?

Vienna gambit is one (maybe the only one?) which should NOT be accepted

3 ... d5 is almost forced, with a comfortable game.

Here's a dubious continuation by white:

Here's an example of what happens when accepted:

I play the Vienna Gambit, both on this site and OTB. However, I have a rather simplistic approach: I play the VG as I would the KG, deferred by one move. The "extra move" (2. Nc3) confuses some opponents OTB and seems to avoid some of the pet lines, that players use against the KG.

I'm sure that I don't have this nailed down, so look forward to strong players giving you a better answer than I just did. Smile

Like accepting, for instance Laughing

It's very easy to decline a gambit, with a database to hand. OTB, against an ancient weapon and knowing that the acid test for any gambit, is to accept, is an altogether proposition. Admittedly, I've only played it three times OTB, against 1950 (average) opposition, but all have accepted and all have lost. People love a "free" pawn. Wink

Thanks Rooperi for the advise.

All the option you propose seems dreadfull and very sharp: hope to find something else before the tournament!

Thanks Travis
