"With great aggression comes great risk."

Was it Stan Lee who said that?

This is only about the 9 millionth thread on this topic.

There are no aggressive openings.  Only aggressive variations, most of which cannot be forced.

And since you are calling for Opening and not Defense, I'm going to assume you mean White.

Many would respond 1.e4, and a response like the Sicilian requires aggression by White just to gain an advantage - typically playing 2.Nf3 and 3.d4, and if Black plays something like the Dragon or Najdorf, sacrifices are often necessary to win.  Sitting back will do you no good.

However, if Black plays something like the French Defense (my hand is now raised), then there is no aggression.  The Advance Variation some may call the most "aggressive", but you aren't going to blast Black off the board.  It's all about getting Black into a worse endgame, such as Good Knight (for White) versus Bad Bishop (for Black), unless you play something like 3.Nc3, Black plays the Winawer, and against 7.Qg4, Black castles instead of playing 7...Qc7 or 7...cxd4.  In cases like that, White goes for the King rather than the better endgame, but again, that's Black's decision on whether or not to play the Winawer as opposed to the Classical lines with 3...Nf6, at which point White decides Steinitz or 4.Bg5, and if the latter, Black decides between Classical, Burn, and MacCutcheon.

Against the Caro-Kann, some may call the Panov-Botvinnik Attack the most "aggressive", but again, barring an early blunder by Black, you are just killing yourself if you overreach.

Lastly, against 1...e5, many of the "gambits" are aggressive, but they are no good for White.

If you can't learn to deal with both wild aggression and working your way through calm waters, you'll never be a good chess player.  Period!

Can't be forced, and should never be allowed by Black!

1.e4 e5 (Black can just as easily play 1...c5, 1...c6, or 1...e6, all of which avoid the Fried Liver Attack, hereafter referred to as FLA) 2.Nf3 Nc6 (2...Nf6, 2...d6, and even 2...f5 avoid the FLA) 3.Bc4 Nf6 (3...Bc5 and 3...Be7 avoid the FLA) 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Nxd5?? (5...Na5! is light years stronger, avoids the FLA, and fully equalizes!)

"There is no such thing as a 'best opening.' Each player should choose an opening that attracts him. Some players are looking for a gambit as White, others for Black gambits. Many players that are starting out (or have bad memories) want to avoid mainstream systems, others want dynamic openings, and others want calm positional pathways. It’s all about personal taste and personal need.

For example, if you feel you’re poor at tactics you can choose a quiet positional opening (trying to hide from your weakness and just play chess), or seek more dynamic openings that engender lots of tactics and sacrifices (this might lead to more losses but, over time, will improve your tactical skills and make you stronger)." - IM Jeremy Silman (January 28, 2016)

"... you must choose what openings you will be using. This choice depends on your taste and also on the character and style of your game. If you like to attack and you are not afraid of sacrificing and taking risks choose sharp gambit openings. If you prefer a quiet game, then there are relatively calm openings for you. ..." - Journey to the Chess Kingdom by Yuri Averbakh and Mikhail Beilin

Perhaps Strunk_&_White will soon be here.

Danish gambit: when you agree to sacrifice a pawn or two for controlling squares and attacking your opponent with most of your pieces .Soon bishops will be pairing to attack along king side and queen joining the play. This is one of the main line against inexperienced players.

Let's assume black plays what we want.

I prefer Evans gambit.
