Just keeping playing normally against the Bird's don't attack to fast notice the white squares are weak near the king and a7 - g1 diagonal and d4 is the move in Nf6 Scandinavian when your not sure about an opening just revert to basic opening ideas and look up what top players play after and their ideas.

What u say is right at 1200 level, but when someone plays near to 2000 level, it is not enough.

Chess is concrete and playing with basic ideas is a bit short...

Here i think Deranged problem is that scandinavian leads to structures black want, and a bit the same with 1.f4 when u cannot prevent white playing what he/she wants (except From gambit which is probably doubtful but playable).

And indeed, these openings show an important feature : Deranged opponents play the structure they want, playing on their own field.

But as I said, chess is concrete game, and there are specific solutions.

I really hate the Budapest, Albin and Benko gambit. Especially when I play blitz or rapid. Ofc the first two are rather dubios but they are still totally playable, but black gets the pressure and white needs to consolidate. This is often struggelsome grin.png and the benko feels really sound imo. Its hard for a player on my level to stand up against all the ideas and pressure points for black in the position.

She respond with simple fianchetto on king side!!

Their is no such thing as an "annoying" opening.  Annoying translates to "I don't know what to do"

Keep it simple.  Its move 4.

ooops, it didn't quote right.

Any opening which places you in a middle game where you feel clueless.

So do your homework, and keep your opening repertoire "compact."  Hope Springs Eternal.

The queen's gambit as black I've seen thousands of times, by players who enjoy playing the same d4 again, and again, and again, and again, and ...

it's funny you say birds opening. I played sicillian with black like three games in a row and instinctively I played f4 with white on my next game (I wasn't paying attention and was playing like I had black again). I thought it was a terrible blunder- I had never even heard of birds opening, but I just rolled with it and played it like a backwards and reversed sicillian dragon, and I ended up winning handily. it's not something you see very often, so I think it throws your opponents off. along with the fiancetto'd bishop in a dragon setup, knight on e3, and a couple pushed pawns, the birds opening gives you a fast and nasty grip on the D5 square. I enjoy throwing it in the mix a bit.

Every once in awhile during a blitz game, I'll have the Black pieces, and the White player will play 1. e4 and 2. Qh5.

It annoys me to feel obligated to win the game by refuting his early Queen sortie.

The fact that you do not enjoy playing against Black's most common reply to your opening of choice is probably a sign that you should not play that opening...

@Deranged:

Thinkof this as a Dutch Defense reversed. Iyou want in this line, White has developing moves such as e3, d4, Nc3 etc. I would look at some basic openings books that deal with flank openings and try to understand the ideas behind the opeings. Black will either have to attack the Queenside or break in the center, otherwise, just try to develop naturally and after you castle, try to find aplan that allows for you to make use of the Bishop on g2.

As for the Nf6 Scandinavian, I think again, just develop. This essentially is akin to a gambit but White is better suited to develop instead since he has moved a pawn twice. Since you would see 2... Qxd5 3. Nc3 and either 3...Qa5 or 3... Qd8, you lose nothing continuing development or even playing 3. c4 with some interesting ideas for both sides. Good luck.

Sorry if I was unclear. As Black after 1. e4 I play 1...e5 hoping for the Ruy. Then I sometimes get the King's Gambit (which I accept). I don't enjoy it because it is so unlike what I normally play.

My mistake, I misread your original post. Stay tuned, I have a blog post coming up about how to handle the KG.

Some of the more stubborn gambits, like Latvian or Danish.

For me it's always a chore coming up with a good counter-initiative against it.
