l fas white: OMG i am structurally inferior
as black: OMG i am going to get mated
LMFAO
The Sicilian Defense is the most potent response to 1.e4 and has the highest winning percentages against white.
1.e4? (Advantage Black)
1...c5? (Equal Game)
1.e4?! c5!?
Let's be a little more precise in our evaluation.
1.e4?! e6!!=
That's a hook. It may hold bait. Alternately, one may wrap fur and feathers and thread on it to create a lure that is not bait. For instance:
Or, does "this" refer to the fish in the image?
On a more serious note, a tierlist of defenses to e4

Let's clarify why e4 is dubious at best:
1.e4?! c5!? = (Why blow the advantage though?)
1.e4?! e6? 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 +/=
1.e4?! c6! =/+

And Aarnos is a fish!
One, two, three or four moves with arbitrary evaluation isn't convincing. TWENTY(15 for lesser used openings, 25 for highly theoretical openings) moves with subvariations and proper evaluations is convincing. If you can produce that and reach the same conclusion without the analysis having holes in it I'll be the first to apologize.

I think sicilian defense is just overrated. No doubt it has the highest winning % among GMs and strong, experienced players. Clearly, its the best response to e4, if you calculate positional values with numbers.
But weak Sicilian defenders without proper positional chess skills who think c5 is an invincible move should be crushed like termites with Morra gambit esp. on rapid chess. :P
A strong response to e4 doesnt give easy winning chances. If one cannot defend the Morra gambit and Morphy gambit accurately, then Sicilian defense is clearly not his/her best response to e4...
My best response to e4 is e5.

I was just trying to say, how I love Morra gambit..!
Its fun! Its unsound, but I cant stop touching my d2 pawn after black's c5... ;P
e4 c5

I Thought you were going to talk about Blacks Development Disadvantage, c5 does nothing to help Blacks Development.
It's like any other opening - depends on which player has better preparation.
