The strongest opening is the one you feel comfortable in.

There is no Strongest, and the Scotch Gambit is an opening often played by amateur children because of their high levels of impatience and they get away with a lot of quick, cheap attacks fast because Black has no clue what they are doing. With correct defense by Black, the Scotch Gambit is equal AT BEST, and in most cases, White ends up slightly worse.

I am going to guess the OP is under 18!

Ruy Lopez

WhatTheChess96

I’m gonna say the Evan’s gambit, definitely

Italian is the strongest, cause it is one of the oldest, it also the one that is hardest to master cause there are so many lines and positions are very cramped and tactical, if your opponent knows it is going to be a grind but on the other hand it is also the hardest cause it is positional grind to end game which is always tricky

Ok, opinions aside, does anybody here know which opening chess theory considers best? Best by that tiny little centipawn? The question of best opening is a philosophical one. Philosophical questions seldom have clear answers, but they do have numerous serious attemts to get an answer.

first move - Nf3(not e4 because sicilian exists and not d4 or c4 because why not give yourself time)

Ruy Lopez: Exchange Variation is my personal favorite. Double their pawns and take a free pawn. And it doesn't require them to make some stupid blunder nobody would ever do if they knew what chess is.

If there was a "best" opening, why would anybody play anything else?

michaelpowers8
For white and under 2000: King’s Gambit, a3 Sicilian, Blackmar Diemer Gambit. I say these because they have little theory, and although you typically gambit a pawn, your activity is excellent for attacking. To play solid as white with chances of winning, KIA

For black: Dutch, e6 b6, French, these again don’t have a ton of theory, if you want to attack, play the Dutch, and if you want solid, play the other 2

A better question might be "With which opening would a beginner learn fastest?"

... and the answer might be 1. e4

if you ask the computer the strongest lines are the berlin defense, classical QGD, semi tarrash, exchange french, etc...

but to a human its likely the more sharper dynamic lines where a draw is less likely to occur, (i.e sicilian, pp french, kings indian)
